The Similan visiting season runs from 15 October to 15 May under the park’s published seasonal schedule. The islands reopened on 15 October 2026. The announced 2026–27 season runs through 15 May 2027; short-notice restrictions can still affect a particular trip.

Those dates answer whether a visit can be planned. They do not tell you how smooth the crossing will be, whether your chosen boat has space or which reef the skipper will use that day.
Picking a month
For a first visit with flexible dates, we would start by looking at December to March. That leaves some distance from the seasonal opening and closing dates. It is a planning preference, not a forecast or a guarantee of calm water.
- October and November
- The season restarts in mid-October. Keep a spare day in your itinerary if this boat trip is important to you; reopening does not mean that the sea has settled for every departure.
- December to March
- A practical window to compare dates and operators. Decide between a snorkelling day trip and a liveaboard before arranging the surrounding hotels: the time commitment is very different.
- April to mid-May
- Still within the published season, but leave room for changes near its end. Confirm the last operating date for your boat rather than assuming it sails on every day the park permits visits.
- Mid-May to mid-October
- This is the normal closure period. A Phuket or Khao Lak hotel booking does not change access to the Similans. Plan another activity rather than treating a closed-season crossing as a cheaper version of the same excursion.
A beach forecast is not a crossing forecast
The Thai Meteorological Department separates the southern west coast from the east coast in its forecasts. For this trip, look at the west coast and Andaman marine conditions, including wave warnings. A weather symbol for Phuket town is not enough to assess an offshore boat journey.
Rain at your hotel does not by itself tell you whether the boat will sail. Equally, a bright morning does not overrule a marine warning. Confirm the departure with the operator and follow park restrictions. Avoid making a non-refundable onward connection depend on an exact return time.
Admission and the boat reservation
Similan uses electronic park tickets. Check whether the provider arranges yours, whether admission is included in the quote and what passport information is required. Provide identity details through the operator’s booking channel; a general enquiry to this guide does not reserve park entry.
The Phuket route and Khao Lak route have different road-transfer implications. Neither changes the park season. If you are considering several days of diving, check the actual sailing dates and route before choosing accommodation on either side of the trip.
Opening-date questions
Are the Similan Islands open now?
At this guide’s check on 30 October 2026, the 2026–27 season had opened. That is a dated confirmation, not a live departure report. Check for local restrictions before travelling.
Can I visit in June, July or August?
Those months are within the normal seasonal closure. Do not book a Similan visit for them on the strength of an undated tour listing.
Does the park open on 1 November?
That date appears in some older descriptions. The current published opening is 15 October, including the confirmed reopening in 2026.
Is there a different season for scuba diving?
Plan Similan diving within the park’s permitted season. Individual boats can have a shorter operating calendar, and a site may be unsuitable even while the park is open.
Which month guarantees clear water or manta rays?
None. Visibility and wildlife encounters vary. Choose a route for its dive sites and suitability for your experience, not a guaranteed sighting claim.
